Sydney CBD Chiropractor and Functional Medicine practitioner Dr Adrian Clegg explains how his treatment method combining Atlas Orthogonal and the Kalish method of Functional Medicine can combat the destructive effects of adrenal fatigue, vertigo and even as a treatment method for migraine sufferers.
Adrenal fatigue or more precisely HPA (hypothalamus – pituitary – adrenal) axis dysregulation is the consequence of chronic unrelenting stress. Whilst the stress response is a necessary part of life, saving us from being eaten by a lion through the flight or fight response. Chronic stress has been linked to many life-threatening conditions. What may save our life in the short term can also destroy your life in the long term Chiropractor Cbd.
Unfortunately, most doctors do not understand how to test and effectively treat adrenal fatigue. The Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) test is the gold standard for assessing for adrenal fatigue. Effective treatment is dependent on determining which stage of adrenal fatigue you are in. Strategies to correct HPA axis dysregulation are twofold. Bio-identical hormones pregnenolone and DHEA in liquid formula are used to reset the dysfunctional HPA axis. Licorice root and Enerphos can affect the conversion of cortisone to cortisol and vice versa. Adaptogenic herbs are used to support an overactive or underactive HPA axis and a wide range of nutrients are crucial to provide the building blocks the body needs to recover from Adrenal Fatigue.
One of the roles of cortisol is in blood sugar regulation. Most people suffering from adrenal fatigue will have some degree of blood sugar irregularities throughout the day. For effective weight loss treatment, the HPA axis should also be assessed. Most of my patients who correct their adrenal fatigue also achieve a healthier weight. Digestive health is often central to my adrenal fatigue treatment. Bacterial and yeast overgrowth, parasites, leaky gut and food sensitivities can all contribute to Adrenal Fatigue and weight gain.
Weight loss treatment all too commonly neglects the adrenal glands and the endocrine function of the HPA axis. My strategies that correct adrenal function also have the desirable side effect of aiding in weight loss. Further testing through the organic acids can give further insight to problems with the metabolism.
Neck injuries are a major contributor to the often-distressing symptoms of vertigo. Atlas Orthogonal technique which targets the upper cervical region has helped many of my patients suffering from vertigo. Vertigo treatment that focusses on other causes of vertigo such as hormonal imbalances or blood pressure instabilities secondary to adrenal fatigue have also shown great results.
Many of my patients who suffer with recurrent headaches and migraines have also shown improvements through Atlas Orthogonal and Functional Medicine treatment strategies. Headache treatment and migraine treatment has classically been approached via medications. Whilst they may provide short term relief, overuse of medications can induce headaches in many cases, not to mention the damaging side effects of the ingredients in the medications.
A better option in headache and migraine treatment is to correct the underlying cause. Misalignments in the neck and upper cervical vertebrae can be the underlying cause. Other factors such as hormone imbalances are extremely common in migraine sufferers. Correcting cervical misalignments has helped countless numbers of my patients with their headaches. Although a little more complex, migraine treatment strategies that I use focussing on correcting hormonal imbalances have been extremely successful. Testing procedures such as the DUTCH cycle mapping can uncover problems throughout the menstrual cycle with fluctuating estrogen or progesterone levels. By correcting these fluctuations, you can avoid debilitating monthly migraines.
